My name is Matt and I am passionate for the outdoors and its use in empowering students through meaningful experiences. I graduated from Lakehead University with an Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, as well as a Bachelor of Geography and then further completed a Bachelor of Education in Outdoor Ecological and Experiential Education. I am also a graduate of the NOLS Outdoor Educator program and for me these experiences naturally led to becoming a certified FNS teacher with Forest School Canada.
I have dedicated myself to working with children and young adults in various outdoor pursuits, programs and facilitation roles. Prior to FSFNS, I worked for Katimavik, a non-profit Canadian national youth volunteer experiential education program, and also a therapeutic boarding school based in Algonquin for youth struggling with addictive behaviours and mental health issues. I’ve spent time teaching both in and outside the classroom, all over Canada and abroad, and now am thrilled to be able to live my passion right here at home.
As a new father of two kids under two, I recognize now more than ever the importance of nurturing connection with self, others and Nature. I live and love Forest and Nature School’s ethos and am eager to work, play and learn alongside your children! As we enter our 5th year as a School, I am excited to continue the discovery!
